Ramblings. Musings. Strange Eatings.

last day of summer

The sun rises on our final morning in Cape Town and I’m feeling a pang of melancholy to leave this beautiful city and the summer sunshine behind.

In Angola seasons didn’t really exist. Whether it was January or July, the sun came up and went down around the same time, and the temperature didn’t change much. Sure, in July there was a noticeable “chill” to the air in the evenings, but we’re talking a frigid 75 degrees as apposed to 82. It puts you in a total time warp. You see folks post on Facebook about a heat wave or a snowstorm and you’re like, “hwaa? What month is it?”

Over the last few weeks in Cape Town, I feel like we’ve finally had a summer. Long days. Warm evenings. Pleasant mornings. It puts a spring in your step and makes you want to wake up early, open up the windows and enjoy another cup of coffee.

Tonight we leave for London before beginning an overland journey from Marrakesh to Lisbon. Back to the chill, but also back to old friends and new places. For now, we’re going to enjoy the summer sun on our shoulders and the flip-flops on our feet.

I think I’m going to open another window …
